Surprised to see your name at the bottom?
It's because you're absent for the 15km run, or both of the runs at Changi Village and Kallang.
To be in the placings, the Boy should have attended both the Changi Village run and the Kallang run, or the 15km run.

I want to see these people on Monday, after school at the concourse:

Tan Kah Kee
Tan Juan Jie
Harold Lim

I want the Medical Certificates of these people:
Zhi Ping
Jing Han

Those reading this page, pls have the initiative to call them up and tell them.

Today's run was a mark on our ability to handle the race. The distance was exactly 15km. or so. maybe a bit more.
We began at about 8 plus.
It was painstakingly slow, yes. But still, we had the stamina. We'll work on the speed. We took about 2-3 hrs. Which meant that we took much more time to cover each 5km. We'll have to wonder why.

Placings:

1) Xiao Yu not known
2) Alwyn 10:16 a.m
3) Song Leng , Joel 10: 39 a.m
4) Ming Jun 10: 44 a.m.
5) Jeremy not known
6) Keng Guan not known
7) Glenn incomplete

Boys'Brigade14th 2:21 AM

Greetings, Champions.

There are a few things I have to address.
Firstly.
Attendance sucks.
Forgive me for my crudeness, but it's the reality.
The situation: You don't regard AQ training seriously. What's the point of planning trainings if we don't use them to raise our chances of winning?
Take today's training for example. 8/15 of the AQ team came.
Examples of excuses: overslept or purely skipping the training.
I won't mention them by name.
But I know who are the slackers. Some of you think that you're physically good enough and you don't need the run. I say it's bullcrap. Everyone in the team has to, and will run.
I'll be finding a slot to base your very own 15km run.
Now, with reference to my training attendance list (Yes, I have one), only Ming Jun and I have been present for ALL of the trainings thus far.
None of you are special. Especially the Sec4s. I can personally call you, and you can dare to tell me you're not coming because you overslept.
What the heck have you been doing!? The rest of the team, more than half, can crawl out of bed to my training, yet you guys can't?
Meet me @ Concourse on Monday, Straight after school. I don't care if you're sec4 or not, LCP or SSG.

I want to commend those that actually completed the entire course. And thank SGT Chia Hong for providing his help on Bike.
Everybody was rather fine, even though towards the end, our group of 8 became 7 and then slowly, we split the 7 into small pockets of pairs and trios.
The thing is, we must work to keep our running constant thruout. The first one to reach the finishing line doesn't count. It's the last person to dash across.
So maybe it would be more effective to run in groups of 4 i.e. the people ure in the same leg with. Nice idea from Jeremy. He was incidentally, slowed because of his injury. He fell down several times because of an old injury that acted up. For a moment, he was last in the entire run. Yet he overtook keng guan... He ran throughout, HEAT SPRAY in hand. Remarkable. Mind over matter. You all should be mentally strong. Ignore the pain and run.

Another thing is, I'll be using this blog to update the fitness and the progress of you guys with regard to ranking in the entire team. For those that can't complete the race or were absent in our 15km run or absent for 2 long runs are last.
It's not to mock you guys or what, but to let you know your standing in the team and that you need to work on your part to keep up.

There'll be a map reading training sometime in March, on a Friday. It is COMPULSORY. I want only MCs and real verifications of your absences. No more Mr. Nice Guy.
I've been slack on my part in collecting leaves of absences.
I want to apologize to those who have been faithfully coming.
Now those who did not turn up will have to pay back what they owe.

Dun mess with my tolerance.
The reason I did not emphasize too much on the discipline part was to let you guys run the race in a carefree mood and not be restricted by military style indoctrination. Since you have tested me so, I will not allow anymore nonsense.
Those who are sick, however, wil escape my wrath.

I will post again if there's anything else.

This is news from BBHQ:

THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE of BBAQ 2006 would like to send its congratulations to your Company on the Map Reading Test conducted on 17 February 2006, Friday at BB Campus. Your 1 Relay Team has successfully completed and pass the test.

Once again, I'd like to mention the 2 guys who went to the HQ level Map Reading Test while the rest of you were having the company based training.
I heard from our affectionate CLT that the map plotting skills were very lousy. I'll see if we can steal time somewhere to teach map reading to you guys.

The people who took the HQ map reading test:
Jeremy
Kah Kee
Song Leng

So this means that we're in the race and we are going to go all the way and win.

See You at the long run tmr,
Ciao

I hope I'm not going to bore anyone.
If you have read the BBHQ website, there are these red words that says:
Ready for BBAQ?

I think we have to ask ourselves this very same question. Are we ready for BBAQ?
Physically, yes. We are in a better shape than we were last year, because of the long distance running. Some of our Seniors eg. SCL Yan Quan and ex-CSM Drsmond Lee were rather surprised that we had run 10 km. Last year, I don't think we had any runs more than 4 km.
Skills-wise, its still too early to come to conclusions, but most important of all, your map-reading skills. I think the map reading last Friday wasn't too good.
There'll be a map reading session which I would conduct so that everyone knows about map reading, the uses of a compass and the other components to map reading. I can say for sure that we can move much more quickly if we know how to use the map much more quickly. We'll be having some more refinement of topographical skills.

You can Bike the fastest, kayak like a motorboat or run like crazy, but if you don't know where you want to go, you're sunk.

That's why map reading is so important. And for those clowns who think it's a waste of time, I'm gonna whup your bottoms. If anyone thinks that they can miss any topo trainings, then they can go on the Mock Race without a map OR a compass.

That's why, Feburary marks the end of any Physical Training.
Instead, we'll be having Archery, Rockwall, Kayaking, Biking and our Mock Race.
I want everybody to be present for all of the trainings, reserves or not. Everyone has a part to play. It doesn't mean that you're not needed even if you might not take part in the actual race.

There'll be several map reading sessions in place of PT. I stil want you guys to jog, run and swim or whatever is it you can squeeze into your schedules.

The Importance of Map Reading

The map is a two dimensional representation of 3 dimensional natural and man-made features in a given surface of the Earth's area.
It is your life during BBAQ.
You lose it, you're dead.
It can tell you where you are, where are you going and the way to go.
It tells you your Direction and the Distance from the Destination.
the 3Ds.
The compass tells you where's North and supports your direction.
These two are extremely important.

Never ever regard the map as extra baggage.

Also.
I want everyone to research on how can we safely keep the Log Card and all our equipment as we are running. I want no repeat of last year's mistake.
Pls ponder over this and submit a page on how can we prevent the equipment from getting lost. Even big things like the helmet can get lost, mind you.
It should begin with:

HOW TO ENSURE THAT EQUIPMENT IS NOT LOST.

You can either team up or do individually. I'll tell you guys more about it.

Ciao./

hey Champions,

Announcements first.
I want all the Kayaking Star One forms to be in by monday's meeting. The BBHQ seemingly does not want our 32A forms but instead, our certificates. Tell me on Monday, who doesn't have any forms. I need them urgently and that I have to settle everything about registration by beginning of next week. Pls remind Harold to sign his form and bring tmr.

Jeremy, Kah Kee, I'll be telling you guys about the Map Reading Clinic tmr.

Now. The Confirmed Team List.
All those who passed yesterday's 10 km run would be inside the Team.
The Legs of the relay are not in order.

TEAM BIATHLON (2 ppl run, 2 ppl cycle)

SSG Lau Song Leng
SSG Tan Juan Jie
SGT Tan Kah Kee
SGT Joel Ng Wei Xin

PURE CYCLING

SSG Jeremy Ang Chuan Hwen
SSG Alwyn Wong Kwan Kin
SGT Wu Xiao Yu
SGT Chia Cherng Ru

RUNNING LEG

SGT Harold Lim Zong Ming
SGT Chan Keng Guan
SGT Siow Zhi Ping
LCP Ko Ming Jun

RESERVES
SGT Lim Chee Keen
LCP Glenn Tan Ming Yu
LCP Lee Jing Han

Those who are not in the main team would still have to come for trainings. We still treasure your participation. You will still get your rewards when we win.

Now, my comments.

Yesterday, 12 people came for the training. It was one of the most important trainings in AQ, and those who didn't come, with the exception of Xiao Yu would have to sit on the bench as reserves.
We ran from Kallang MRT to Anglican High School throught Sims Avenue and Upper Changi Road. The overall team was dragged down by our dear pal. But it was not the sole reason for us to drop in timing and even though it was of a shorter distance. I would not say that the 10 km that we ran was in vain. I admire you guys' cooperation and will to make it back to school. I would not say it was an easy run. There are several reasons why we slowed. I will compare this time, called the Kallang Run, to the Changi Village Run.

Changi Village is a tranquil place with reasonably lesser traffic, more greenery and lesser traffic lights.
I would say that the stretch of shop houses slowed us down. There was not much road for us to run and that there was always the danger of cars, safety vehicle or not. the air was definitely bad and the traffic lights were uncountable.
The repeated stops slowed our momentum and eventually ate into our minds.
Running is mostly mental. The brain is king over all your body parts.
This shows that terrain and environment varies and would affect our run. This is rather, a very good lesson. And i'm very happy that almost all of us made it back to school.
Because I wasn't sure myself that we could.
Nice one ming jun. He had only a few hours of sleep and yet managed to keep up with all of us. He's really very good.
As usual, Alwyn is the crazy guy with the most energy throughout and Harold with his amazing stamina.
I think that our chances of winning is almost secured.
We have a good team, decent support from the officers and incredible activities ahead for the AQ team.

That's why, our aim is not to beat the Relay teams. We MUST beat the Open teams. They would be running throughout the race. We are rested and therefore, if the Open teams get of us, it would mean that we are not as good as we think.
We must, and we will beat them.

Look at the Pure Cycling leg. I'm sure you've all seen Xiao Yu cycle. Alwyn too. The pure cycling leg is probably the strongest leg among all of us. I think the running leg is good too. Harold has inexhaustible stamina and Ming Jun is very good. Wow.

We really need to rehearse crossing the finishing line.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Ming Jun's friend for spending so much time and effort to come up with such an amazing blogskin. Many people have seen it and tagged about how beautiful it is, and I can see why. Nice one MJ.

Ok, now while everyone is recovering from Saturday's Ball-hurting experience, I hope that Xiao Yu's lessons about Biking are useful to you guys in the race. He taught us to adjust our Bikes to suit us, how to travel on terrain like sand and that rocky breakwater, and how to draft and form up.
These are the people selected for Biking:
Positions are more or less fixed.

PURE CYCLING LEG Wu Xiao Yu
Jeremy Ang Chuan Hwen
Alwyn Wong Kwan Kin
Chia Cherng Ru

TEAM BIATHLON (2 ppl run, 2 ppl cycle)Lau Song Leng
Tan Juan Jie
Tan Kah Kee
Joel Ng Wei Xin

These are the select 8 people who have to attend further Biking trainings. There'll be 2 more.
As for the rest of the team, u all are vying amongst each other for positions in the Running leg and the opportunity to cross the finishing line and raise up OUR trophy. So u guys have to buck up so that you would earn a place in the last leg. Every Leg is infinitely important. Everyone plays an important role. You should stick to your partners and be the best AS A TEAM.

Now to the training, some of you have expressed surprise when I announce that there would be Aq training at any point of time. I find it ridiculous. I have printed schedules of our trainings for all of you earlier this year. So all of you should be aware of the training dates, unless there are any last minute changes and HQ events. So in future, Pls take note of the schedule.

Tomorrow, there'll be AQ training.
Attire-wise: PE t-shirt and any shorts.
Bring your water bottle.
Meet @ Concourse at 3pm. Training would last a short while.

There would be another training at the end of this week. More details tomorrow.
And as many of us are having tutorials and tea with our respective subject teachers. So we may have to sit down and rearrange the training schedules.

Guys, I have one comment about the training on Saturday. I understand that there was no debrief, so I'll do one online. And one tomorrow.

The mistake made by the ICs was the lack of preparation. There was no First Aid Kit to tend to the injuries some of you sustained, however minor or serious. There was also very little notice given about the training. But overall, the training went along smoothly and I want to thank you all for bearing with us.
The same old problem however, with you all was the lack of respect for ure IC. Xiao Yu was having a hard time getting u all to respond to him.
If that happens in the race and there is no communication or responsiveness, how are we going to gauge the conditions of one another? I want u guys to eliminate external distractions from your AQ training, so that you won't miss out anything we say.

One more thing, if in any case, any one of you do not make it into the first team, do not think that its because you're lousy or any stupid reason. When I disclose the team names, there are still liable to change. I want you guys to have the attitude that even though you're not running physically, you are part of the team and of AQ 2006. The Winning Team of AQ 2006.
There will be another chance for us to win. And when old dogs like me retire, new underdogs and undiscovered heroes will emerge. Who of the old team will remain? I hope everybody. And who of the new batch would join? I hope everyone too. We need a big pool of talents to heighten the possibilities of us winning.
And we already have that.
Believe me, I'm having a headache deciding who should get the places in the team. Your general attitude and your performance and your skills in certain areas may help you. But whatever it is, I want you guys to keep the faith.

The juniors may not all get to take part. Even the seniors may not all be in the race. What's important is what you take from this AQ and bring to next year's. You gain fitness, experience and fun. Doing this with your batch and your seniors is a chance you might not get again. So cherish AQ 2006.

And rehearse how you cross the finishing line AS A TEAM.
