I hope I'm not going to bore anyone.
If you have read the BBHQ website, there are these red words that says:
Ready for BBAQ?

I think we have to ask ourselves this very same question. Are we ready for BBAQ?
Physically, yes. We are in a better shape than we were last year, because of the long distance running. Some of our Seniors eg. SCL Yan Quan and ex-CSM Drsmond Lee were rather surprised that we had run 10 km. Last year, I don't think we had any runs more than 4 km.
Skills-wise, its still too early to come to conclusions, but most important of all, your map-reading skills. I think the map reading last Friday wasn't too good.
There'll be a map reading session which I would conduct so that everyone knows about map reading, the uses of a compass and the other components to map reading. I can say for sure that we can move much more quickly if we know how to use the map much more quickly. We'll be having some more refinement of topographical skills.

You can Bike the fastest, kayak like a motorboat or run like crazy, but if you don't know where you want to go, you're sunk.

That's why map reading is so important. And for those clowns who think it's a waste of time, I'm gonna whup your bottoms. If anyone thinks that they can miss any topo trainings, then they can go on the Mock Race without a map OR a compass.

That's why, Feburary marks the end of any Physical Training.
Instead, we'll be having Archery, Rockwall, Kayaking, Biking and our Mock Race.
I want everybody to be present for all of the trainings, reserves or not. Everyone has a part to play. It doesn't mean that you're not needed even if you might not take part in the actual race.

There'll be several map reading sessions in place of PT. I stil want you guys to jog, run and swim or whatever is it you can squeeze into your schedules.

The Importance of Map Reading

The map is a two dimensional representation of 3 dimensional natural and man-made features in a given surface of the Earth's area.
It is your life during BBAQ.
You lose it, you're dead.
It can tell you where you are, where are you going and the way to go.
It tells you your Direction and the Distance from the Destination.
the 3Ds.
The compass tells you where's North and supports your direction.
These two are extremely important.

Never ever regard the map as extra baggage.

Also.
I want everyone to research on how can we safely keep the Log Card and all our equipment as we are running. I want no repeat of last year's mistake.
Pls ponder over this and submit a page on how can we prevent the equipment from getting lost. Even big things like the helmet can get lost, mind you.
It should begin with:

HOW TO ENSURE THAT EQUIPMENT IS NOT LOST.

You can either team up or do individually. I'll tell you guys more about it.

Ciao./
