b) MAP READING TEST

Similar to last year's BBAQ, our Boys will need to be equipped with map
reading skills and pass the pre-test as a pre-requisite for participation in BBAQ 2007.

Objectives:

a. To help BBAQ participants improve their level of Orienteering, which is a fundamental skill for passage through the entire BBAQ route.

b. To ensure that more teams finish the route and do not get lost and drop out of the race.

Participants: Every participating team for BBAQ 2007 must send 2 members to attend the test. The test is a pre-requisite for the BBAQ 2007 competition. All Boys who attend the test have to pass it in order to qualify the teams to compete in BBAQ 2007. For relay teams, kindly note that you need to send the 2 members from LEG 1 to attend the pre-test and pass it.

Session Outline: There will be a revision on the following topics

a. Navigating with a 1:50,000 map
b. Grid References, Bearing (compass work), Distance (pacing etc)
c. Compass usage, comparing map with ground

Practical Assessment:

Participants will be tested on the key areas above by navigating around the BB Campus. Companies should indicate preference for 1 of the 4 sessions.
